Big guns face each other in FIBA Afrobasketball



Today will see the semifinals of the FIBA Afrobasket tournament currently underway in Tunisia. The continent’s basketball powerhouses will face off in what promises to be a thrilling evening of African basketball action. West African powerhouses Senegal and Nigeria will face each other at 6:30pm with Gorgui Dieng (Senegal/Minnesota Timberwolves) and Al-Farouq Aminu (Nigeria/ Portland Trail Blazers) meeting in a game that will decide which of their respective countries will play in the finals.
The other semifinal clash will be between Tunisia and Angola, in a game that promises to be equally thrilling. Please see below an update from the tournament.

Quarterfinals:
- Tunisia v Mail 67-60
- Egypt v Angola 63-83

Semifinals – August 29:
- Nigeria v Senegal 6.30pm
Two current NBA players who represented Team Africa in NBA Africa Game are set to face each other tonight. Senegal’s Gorgui Dieng is leading the tournament in individual accolades and has been the most dominant player in the competition so far. Gorgui spends just over 36 minutes on the floor in each game and is shooting with 49.4% ratio.
Meanwhile, Al-Farouq Aminu of Nigeria is one of their key players with over 22 minutes on the floor on average and 12.6 point contribution per game. As a team, Nigeria has scored the most points in the tournament (83.2 per game) with Senegal recording 5 points less.
- Tunisia v Angola 9.00pm
Full capacity is expected tonight when the hosts Tunisia take on the defending champion Angola in Rades. The winners of the last two Afrobasket tournaments will be counting on their leaders and the Most Valuable Players of both previous tournaments.
Carlos Morais of Angola was the 2013 Afrobasket MVP and is the key pillar of his team (14.6 points per game). MVP of the 2011 Afrobasket Salah Mejri has been the most influential for Tunisia (11.8 points per game).
