D’Tigers of Nigeria Win First Afrobasket Title, Qualify For Olympics
Nigeria's D'Tigers have won the 2015 African Basketball Championship in Tunisia after beating old nemesis Angola by 74 points to 65.
The team which has been in the shadows of their Southern African counterparts for years, made their intention known right from the off as they matched the 11-time champions in every aspect of the encounter before finally pulling away.
D'Tigers took a healthy 13-point lead into half-time and extended it to 17 points going into the fourth and final quarter.
The Angolans rallied in the final quarter but it was too little, too late as the Nigerians made sure of a historic victory.
With this victory, D'Tigers have now automatically qualified for the men's basketball event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The third place match went to Tunisia who beat Senegal.
Meanwhile in some of the individual awards that were given out, Chamberlain Oguchi was named the Most Valuable Player and also the best three pointer of the tournament.
He was also named alongside team-mate, Al-Farouk Aminu, in the best five players of the tournament.
