Former France captain, Patrick Vieira, has been appointed as the new head coach of Strasbourg.
Vieira has signed a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 side.
The 47-year-old replaces Frederic Antonetti, who was sacked last week after the team finished 15th, two places and five points above the relegation zone.
“I welcome Patrick Vieira, whom I know from the French national team; I am very happy to welcome him to Strasbourg.
“He corresponds to the profile we were looking for: a manager with international experience, and who also has a good knowledge of Ligue 1 and its young players,” Marc Keller, Strasbourg’s president, said in a statement on the club website.
Vieira has been out of job since he was dismissed at Crystal Palace towards the end of the last season.
