Partey recovers early, Odegaard signs and Man City win - Arsenal's perfect Premier League return

Arsenal return to action in the Premier League this week and a perfect month before the next international break includes positive injury news, a famous victory and a new contract being signed.

With the first section of the Premier League season over and the weekend complete of this season’s initial international break, Arsenal are looking ahead to what comes next. There are seven games between now and the next break from domestic action and it includes two Champions League dates.

There have been plenty of talking points while Mikel Arteta has had to make do with watching his players from afar. Takehiro Tomiyasu enjoyed a stellar display against Kai Havertz's Germany, Gabriel Magalhaes has had an injury scare and Oleksandr Zinchenko started in midfield and scored against England.

Yet with the return of the Premier League, Arsenal will have a number of things on their list of what would make up a perfect month. With that in mind, football.london takes a look at three dream scenarios that could come to pass in September and October.

Double midfield return

There is an expectation that this month will see the return of Mohamed Elneny. The Egyptian told football.londonthat he would be, “back soon” when asked after the dramatic win over Manchester United.

However, there’s a greater focus on Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian internal suffered a groin injury in training and there has been a variety of timeframes given by his nation’s FA, his manager and other speculative reports ranging from a couple to at least six weeks.

In an ideal world, the midfielder’s return would fall on the lower end of the spectrum. Arsenal have some massive games during this period including the north London derby.

Martin Odegaard signs new deal

Martin Odegaard is progressing in talks with Arsenal over a brand new contractfootball.london understands. The Norwegian international has two goals in the opening four matches including the equaliser against Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta sees Odegaard as the perfect captain and the player is delighted to be progressing with this club. A breakthrough in talks leading to a potential announcement this month over an extension would be a great boost for the team in a pivotal period.

Manchester City victory

The run of seven fixtures ends with perhaps the biggest game of Arsenal’s entire season, their home clash with Manchester City. There are three Premier League games against Everton, Spurs and Bournemouth to be played first and it will be interesting to see how the teams are faring in the table when Pep Guardiola comes to town after his matches against West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.

Arsenal have come close to some great results against City in the league but never been able to snatch something away from the champions under Mikel Arteta. Should the Gunners want to win the league, they cannot allow their closest rival to get maximum points against them for yet another season.

There’s hope with the reinforcement of Declan Rice, who was wanted by City, that he could be the difference. The perfect scenario would be a win, but a draw would still be an improvement on so many years prior.
