"I get crazy": Elton John now suggests he was unhappy about how Manchester City treated 21-year-old

Elton John has now sent a message to Manchester City and Pep Guardiola about Cole Palmer.

The 76-year-old spoke to Gary Lineker for BBC Sport.

So, what did Elton John say about Cole Palmer? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the singer was critical of Manchester City for not playing the England international.

John did not actually name Guardiola or Manchester City, although given the fact Chelsea are currently giving Palmer plenty of game time, it would seem his frustrations can only be aimed one way.

The honorary life president of Watford said: “I get crazy when players get left out of clubs. I’m so glad Cole Palmer is in the England squad. This boy, he’s only going to learn by playing with the better players.

That is exactly why Palmer wanted to leave Manchester City – by the sounds of it.

Guardiola told the Wythenshawe-born maestro that he would get chances following the departure of Riyad Mahrez to Saudi Arabia.

However, Palmer was keen to step out from the shadows and become a key cog elsewhere, something he has quickly found under Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

The 21-year-old has already become a talismanic figure for the west Londoners, stepping up to take some high pressure penalties, including a late equaliser in the 4-4 draw against Manchester City.

Manchester City cannot be blamed for Cole Palmer exit

Many sections of the media have been critical of Manchester City for letting Palmer leave – including Sam Allardyce and Anton Ferdinand.

However, Guardiola is blessed with many brilliant attacking options, so it was always going to be tough to guarantee playing time.

At Chelsea, Pochettino had more of a blank slate, and effectively built a new frontline this summer in the arrivals of Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Palmer, which ensured the Argentine was able to promise the City Football Academy graduate a leading role.

As such, Manchester City cannot really be blamed for letting him go.
